Using a ‘Smitty Sled’ in the BWCA For Easier Travel
Hauling ice fishing and/or winter camping gear across the Boundary Waters is a laborious task. Even a well-designed pulk sled can be difficult to haul through the deep snow on a frozen Boundary Waters lake.
Enter, the Smitty Sled.
The easiest way to describe a Smitty Sled is that it’s a sled on skis. In this episode, the Great Josh Dix takes his home-engineered Smitty Sled up the Gunflint Trail to go ice fishing on a lake in the BWCA. The trip took place Saturday, Jan. 13.
