DNR conservation officer shares update on ice conditions and lake trout fishing in the BWCA

Fishing licenses needed to renewed March 1 in order to keep ice fishing in the Boundary Waters region for the remainder of winter. The lake trout season ends March 31.

There’s no certainty how much winter is left in the BWCA, given the continued warm temperatures, lack of snowfall, and recent wind and rain.

Trent Anderson is a conservation officer for the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources. He stopped by to talk with Paddle and Portage about the remainder of the lake trout ice fishing season and what the conditions are like on lakes in the BWCA at this time. Listen to the interview in the audio shared below.

In related news, the DNR released the 2024 fishing regulations booklet this week. Click here to see the updated Minnesota fishing regulations, which includes the BWCA.
