The French Broad River was the epicenter of much of the flooding in the aftermath of the hurricane. NORTH CAROLINA – When I floated the French Broad River in August, I did so because I wanted to do something distinctly Asheville.
I had heard stories of floating the river in innertubes and inflatable kayaks, pulling over to enjoy food and beverages at the numerous restaurants and taprooms lining the urban section of this river as it transected this gastronomically famous, brewery-laden, North Carolina college town. The pictures I saw before my trip showed a mellow section of river perfect for a relaxing afternoon—and I wanted to experience it.
