WABAKIMI PROVINCIAL PARK, CANADA – At first, my husband Jon and I thought they were lake trout. We were wrong. They were dinosaurs. And one literally almost knocked me off my feet.
Here’s the scene: It’s our first paddling trip of the season, and my first time in this remote paddling destination. As we began to settle into camp, tent and tarp up, dinner rehydrating, that familiar, satisfying ache setting into our limbs, Jon paused. He was scanning the site, then rummaging through the gear. His voice was calm, but tight: “Have you seen the camera case?” We both knew immediately. It wasn’t here.
