The Challenge (and Joy) of Hunting Whitetail Deer in the BWCA Wilderness

I’ve never been one to do things the easy way.  One of my wife’s earliest memories of us as a newlywed couple comes from our trip together to the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness. 

“Why do you enjoy this so much?” she asked. “It’s so much work.”

“Because it is so difficult,” was my response, without hesitation. 

This answer, admittedly a little tongue-in-cheek, also explains my desire to chase Boundary Waters whitetail – to hunt, fish, and forage – in the backcountry.  Call it romantic, but there’s nothing more rewarding than hard work and a good plan paying off.
