Walleye Limit Likely to be Reduced to Four Starting in 2027 for BWCA Anglers

Anglers who fish for walleye in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness and other places in Minnesota will likely be able to keep two fewer walleye than the current regulations allow. The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources told Paddle and Portage media the overall limit for walleye in the BWCA and other parts of the state will lower from six to four.

The new rule is likely to start near the May fishing opener in Minnesota in 2027. Brian Nerbonne is a DNR regional fisheries manager based in the Twin Cities area. He spoke with Joe Friedrichs about why walleye limits are being reduced from six to four.
