Winter Camping in the Boundary Waters After Epic Snowstorm

By Joe Friedrichs
Four Minnesota residents traveled to the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness following a memorable snowstorm in mid-February 2026. The storm dumped more than 20 inches of snow across parts of the Boundary Waters region.
The group, which includes Mitch Reaume, Jared Wall, Michael Probert, and Chris Lund, considered canceling the trip once the snowstorm rolled in Feb. 18. However, with good intel provided by friends in Grand Marais and Tofte, the trip was able to happen.
And while the snowstorm was part of the experience, this trip was about celebrating the Boundary Waters, and the importance of getting out there.
