Video of Wolf and Moose Encounter Near the Boundary Waters

P&P Staff Report
Joe Friedrichs from the Paddle & Portage Podcast was fishing this week on a lake that hugs the edge of the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness when a dynamic predator-prey encounter unfolded in front of him.
A pack of wolves attacked a calf moose near the shoreline of the lake. The mother, or cow moose, attempted to defend the calf. The wolves were too much to overcome, and the calf was quickly killed by the predators.
Fishing nearby in his solo canoe, Joe captured most of the encounter on video.
Wolf encounters are rare in and around the BWCA Wilderness. Witnessing a pack of wolves attack a moose is extremely rare across North America.
The discussion and some of the footage contained in this video may be alarming for some viewers.
