Nine-Year-Old Injured on Snipe Lake in BWCA During Severe Thunderstorm

UPDATE, 7:45 a.m. June 19: A 9-year-old was injured in the BWCA on Snipe Lake last night. He was evacuated before midnight and transported via ambulance to North Shore Health hospital in Grand Marais, according to multiple sources who spoke with Paddle and Portage.
Paddle and Portage heard via email from Cook County Sheriff Pat Eliasen in Grand Marais, who confirmed that a tree fell down on a 9-year-old who was camping in the BWCA tonight.
Multiple sources later confirmed with Paddle and Portage the incident took place on Snipe Lake in the BWCA. Snipe Lake is a remote lake, south of Round and Ham lakes in the wilderness.
Search & Rescue crews traveled to medevac the boy from the eastern most campsite on Snipe Lake, sources confirmed.
Severe weather moved across the Boundary Waters region tonight, with strong wind, heavy rain, and lightning. Trees were reported down on the Gunflint Trail and Sawbill Trail.
