A Tale of Two Canoe Trips to Isle Royale on Lake Superior

By Joe Friedrichs
Two canoe trips that took place at Isle Royale in late August 2026 are the culmination of years of paddling adventures.
Joe from the Paddle & Portage Podcast and Omaha Erik Dickes adventured on the Washington Harbor/Windigo side of the island. Paddling the Rock Harbor and Blake Point side of the island were Jake and Kurt, two friends from out East who are now living in Orlando and Salt Lake City, respectively.
In a new video available on the Paddle & Portage YouTube page, each group shares their paddling experiences from Isle Royale, including where the fish were biting, where the moose were hanging out, where wolves roamed on the island, and how the adventure brought backpackers, anglers, boaters, kayakers, and canoeists together.
